Fira Mediterrània opens its artistic call for 2011 edition

Fira Mediterrània of Manresa (Catalonia-Spain) has opened its artistic call for its 14th edition that is going to be held from 3rd to 6th November 2011.

Fira Mediterrània of Manresa is part of the arts festival program on which the performance trade fairs scene, shaped by the Ministry of Culture and the Media of the Generalitat of Catalonia, is structured. It is interdisciplinary (visual arts, circus, dance, exhibitions, music, oral storytelling, theatre) and presents new artistic creations, to be performed both indoors and outdoors, that are inspired by cultural features of Catalonia, the Catalan-speaking regions and the Mediterranean area. The performances are small, medium or large scale and aimed at both family and adult audiences. New performances, never staged before in Catalonia, the Catalan-speaking countries or Spain, will be given priority; and also the proposals that allow more than one session, so that they may reach a bigger audience. The last edition of Fira received 829 applications, 140 of which were chosen. Fira is programmed according to infrastructural capacity, the companies’ professionalism and suitability to various formats.

Deadline for submitting proposals is Friday 18th March 2011. Applications may be submitted by post to Fundació Fira Mediterrània de Manresa (C/ Àngel Guimerà, 5, 5th floor. 08241 Manresa - Catalonia / Spain) or by email to artistes@firamediterrania.cat (receipt of applications sent by email will be confirmed). The proposals have to include the application form, the artistic file (with a description of the performance, curriculum vitae, cast and credits, and short text about the relationship between the performance and Mediterranean roots), technical specifications (technical characteristics, staff requirements and measurements of the vehicle for transporting the set), a DVD of the performance or CD from music groups and CD with a photo of the company (in .tif or .jpg format measuring 10 x 15cm and a resolution of 300 dpi).

Fira Mediterrània, an artistic trade fair with professional delegates (1116 at last edition), will negotiate an economical contribution with the companies and groups for travel and meal expenses. All contributions will be understood as including taxes. Companies and groups from abroad will be subject to a 24% foreign entity tax withholding.

Companies or groups will be considered as registered delegates and, as such, will have access to all the scheduled performances, upon request. For their own performance, each company or group will be given ten invitations per staging. They will also have access to the contractual trade fair, a centre for business and exchange among participating institutions, promoters, delegates, companies and journalists. Artists who wish to have a stand in the contractual trade fair can do so for €325 (2x2m) or €450 (3x2m). Promoters who have two or more artists performing at Fira will necessarily obtain one of these stands for the same price.
