company description

HEARSEE - FES & FILM
After the success of 'The Oyster Princess', 'Minoes' and 'My Queen Karo' Peter Vermeersch is using his talent for writing film scores for a new project, called Hearsee. Along with filmmakers, - collectors and - curators, he collected images from a wide range of film archives. The result is a 75 minute non-stop soundtrack, which fully reveals the very cinematographic music of Flat Earth Society.
Premiere: 24th February 2011, deSingel, Antwerp, Belgium

USA tour 2011
From May 10th till May 23rd 2011 FES will play for the first time in their 12 year existence on U.S. soil. On May 19th a concert at the Lincoln Center Atrium Stage is planned, on May 20th they play 'The Oyster Princess' at the new theatre of the Museum of Moving Images in NY. Furthermore concerts are planned in Philadelphia (Ars Nova), Boston and Montreal.

R.I.P. FUNeral songs
Peter Vermeersch will compose funeral songs for the band. 15 musicians, dying one by one, or sometimes four in a row, a terrible plane crash, you know … So you can imagine the full band starting, and then the drummer dies in a car accident and leaves the stage. The next one to go after a severe illness is the trumpet player…. This goes on until one player remains on stage and plays the last and his own funeral song. But meanwhile, the dead musicians gather in the 'afterlife'. Once the last musician joins them there, the whole band reassembles on stage to celebrate, like the dead in Roland Topors story 'Blues for Gaston'. more info
Premiere: October 19th 2011, Concertgebouw Bruges, Belgium

ICEBERG
On April 14th 2012 it will be exactly 100 years ago that the sinking of the Titanic occurred, and on that specific date the new production of Flat Earth Society will premiere in deSingel in Antwerp. FES will play a new composition of Peter Vermeersch for soprano on texts by Josse De Pauw. Subsequently, and as a slow sinking epilogue, Champ d'Action brings the legendary 'Sinking of the Titanic' by Gavin Bryars. The FES musicians join in delicately, as do the images of David Claerbout, until everything becomes unruffled and still. Ship gone, iceberg gone.
