While holding a strong foundation in Mexican folk music, La Victoria resonates a sound that reflects their city of Los Angeles. Officially formed in 2015, Mary Alfaro (guitar), Vaneza Calderón (guitarrón), and Rosalie Rodriguez (violin) have professional backgrounds in mariachi music. With their combined experience in folk music as well as their contemporary upbringings, they have chosen to play songs that ring true in their everyday lives as well as folk standards that are staples of the mariachi. Their passion for Mexican culture inspires them to continue to use the core instruments of the mariachi ensemble to achieve the sound and experience of their city. They dive into various Latin-American genres to present a repertoire that has the ability to unite generations through music. In addition to their weekly residency at Las Perlas in downtown L.A., these musicians play at various types of events throughout the country and are involved in studio recordings, theater productions, community workshops and museum work.
