Fatima Spar & the Freedom Fries
Hot, spicy grooves and uncontrolled joy. good old
jungle style. Anatolian roots and New Orleans-like
swing. all of them played with uncontrolled joy.
These are just some of the descriptions that people
have used for the music of Fatima Spar & the
Freedom Fries.
Fatima Spar & the Freedom Fries already built up
quite al live reputation, driving the crowds mad, in
clubs and on festivals throughout the european
mainland. They are living proof that entertainment
can be both popular and musically substantial. To
witness one of their concerts is in more than one
way thrilling.; this melting pot of influences,
languages, rhythms.... the impressive
craftmanschip of the band members and their
playfulness on stage.

´Zirzop´ is the title of the long awaited debut
album of Fatima Spar & the Freedom Fries,
produced in a three week long exhausting
recording, mixing and mastering session. The
album captures a moment in time, looking back on
the musical past of the band and taking a glimpse
at the future that lies ahead for them.

The title song ´Zirzop´ was the first Fatima Spar
und die Freedom Fries composition going back to
their first concert sometime in april 2004. ´Joseph
Joseph´ and ´Egyptian Ella´ refer to one of the
original sources of inspiration that means a great
deal to the band. ´The glorious swing era´. ´

W´ and ´Istanbul...` are reflections on day-to-day
perceptions of the world that we see around us;
songs about the so many innocent victims of wars,
about political intolerence...

But there is also ´Bosa Noga´ (barefoot), the
feeling of waking up after a long cold winter;, or
´Kibirli Ceviz´ (naughty little walnutt) about the
heroic struggle with a delicious walnutt.

Above all ´Zirzop´ is an album that sweeps you of
your feet. The unique, warm and versitale voice of
Fatima Spar, the sensual accordeon play of Milos
Todorovski, Phillip Moosbruggers upfront and
straight double bass, the fully fledged horn section
featuring Alexander Wladigeroff on trumpet /
flugelhorn and Andrej Prosorov on soprano
saxophone., and to make the circle round there is
drummer Erwin Schober jungling around with some
fast drum´n´bass rhythms.
