All the CDs have a story. Some were told before. Another were discovered after that.
When all the ways were tending me to get in touch with Maria João, my natural desire was to do something that could be a kind of surprise for our creative way of being in the music. I should reject the temptation to return to the ways that we had tried before, where we always had proved and got some good results. The universe of the improvisation, the performance, the European jazz, just likeiIt was told, was our world.
I asked to Maria João "only" to sing these group of songs composed to the CD "Pele'. Just this! And we should be far from the universe we had tried before. Without vocal and instrumental boldness. The receptivity of Maria João has show me how interesting could be the idea. It can be explained by the way she has adopted the songs, giving them life, identity, emotion and tenderness. Also for that, we had the inspired cooperation of Tiago Torres da Silva (eight of the eleven songs) and Eugénia de Vasconcelos, whose lyrics they wrote, contributed to an additional significance to the proposed melodies. Otherwise I also had by my side, the creativity and musical efficiency of Yuri Daniel and Vicky.
Under the same point of view I have to add the name of Mário Barreiros who cooperated with me in the production of the CD.
After all, we knew that in the first place we wanted to be surprised by the results and so, we wrote and composed the songs to that direction.
That would be our challenge.
This is the part of the real story that was told. There is another one to be told, quietly, step by step, just listening to it again and again.
