Marta Simidtchieva (violoncello) and Kris Pineda (piano) perform popular pieces for violoncello and piano by Bulgarian composers. The programme is of interest not only to Bulgarian connoisseurs of chamber music, but also to all who are interested in the musical achievements of the 20th century. The selected composers are among the most prominent and distinctive artists who have contributed to the establishment of the Bulgarian school of composition.
Marta Simidtchieva (violoncello) is a Bulgarian musician with a successful career abroad. A graduate of the National Academy of Music “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” in Sofia, she continued her studies in the USA. She earned her doctorate from Florida State University where she was a student of Lubomir Georgiev. On the faculty at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville since 2005, Marta has taught cello, chamber music, string methods, and general music courses and is a member of the LeClaire Piano Trio. Her teaching and performing activities also include other universities, courses, festivals and orchestras in the USA, where she is an advocate for the music of Bulgarian composers. Marta Simidtchieva manages to interest he colleagues in Bulgarian music and together with pianist Kris Pineda has prepared this interesting programme.
Dr. Kris Pineda completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a pianist with a diverse and original repertoire and has served as Director of Keyboard Studies at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. In addition to his teaching career at various universities, Dr. Pineda has kept a busy schedule of performance in a wide variety of chamber situations. He has given concerts at renowned halls in the United States and has made recordings with chamber ensembles.
