Oum El Ghaît Foulon Ben Essahraoui, aka Oum. Proclaiming her identity as an Arab and African woman, the Marrakesh-born singer, writer and composer travels freely across the musical borders of her homeland and beyond, skilfully blending Gnaoua, Hassany and Amazigh influences with jazz, soul and sufi music, delivered with her positive and charm-laden persona, in full control of an effortlessly expressive voice and her international band of accomplished musicians. Since 2009 she has released three albums: Lik’Oum; Sweerty and Soul of Morrocco with songs exploring love both spiritual and sensual and proffering discourses on refugees, globalization and identity and the right to express it. Oum has collaborated with Manu Dibango, organised the “Women of the Desert” programme at the Taragalte Festival 2013 and participated in the Festival au Désert's Caravan for Peace earlier this year.
