Derek has attended WOMEX since the first edition in 1994 (and the preview at Worldwide Music Days / BID) primarily as a concert / festival presenter. He is on the board of the North American World Music Coalition and is the North American Consultant to the EFWMF. He is interested in advancing the careers of Mr. Something Something, Kobo Town, Jayme Stone / Mansa Sissoko, Silk Road, Bill Bourne / Madagascar Slim, Bernardo Padron at WOMEX 2008. Derek is involved in the planning of Canada's first world music conference, Planet Canada.
