IKI

IKI is a free improvising group of 9 vocalists based in Copenhagen. IKI experiments with movement, light, darkness and unusual setup of the performance. IKI has an unusual format; nine individual singers wanting to come across as a band, not as a choir.

Musically IKI is taking influence from many styles like modern jazz, classical music, pop, folk music and avant-garde, and the music is created on the spot. In their concerts you can experience completely improvised, in the moment music. IKI's members are strong personalities from four different countries, bringing specific qualities and culture from Iceland, Finland, Norway and Denmark.

The IKI soundscapes reflects the deep, Nordic roots, and gives the audience an extraordinary experience with music.

IKI is a japanese word, an aesthetic ideal described like this:

"IKI is an expression of simplicity, sophistication, spontaneity, and originality. It is ephemeral, romantic, straight forward, measured, audacious, smart and unselfconscious.

IKI is not overly refined, pretentious, complicated, showy, slick, coquettish, or, generally, cute. At the same time, IKI may exhibit any of those traits in a smart, direct, and unabashed manner.

IKI may signify a personal trait, or artificial phenomena exhibiting human will or consciousness. IKI may be expressed in human appreciation of natural beauty, or in the nature of human beings."
