Both founders are from Roma musician dynasties and classically trained, they retain distinct musical personalities. Kalman Balogh loves traditional music, his virtuosity matched by his respect for heritage and wide knowledge. Besides his Gipsy Cimbalom Band and many Hungarian projects, he often tours with international troupes. Miklos Lukacs is a prolific composer. He fronts his own quintet, plays in various jazz bands and promotes a higher profile for the cimbalom in orchestral settings. The four-handed attack of their debut is now reinforced with rhythmic input on percussion and double-bass from Andras Des and Csaba Novak, paving the way for more flourishing runs and fantastic embellishment. Mihaly Dresch uses his love of folklore to stretch the limits of jazz, primarily in his own quartet, his ability to improvise freely from folk melodies making him one of Budapest's most distinctive and emotionally charged performers.
