DUBIENT is the third release of the sound production unit Man Data Sound after their acclaimed member side projects. Dubient is also the most coolly assured statement from this loose outfit. A splendid collaboratory unit forced together with the anxiety of finding a mutual outlet for their colourful improvisationary necessities with Panos 'Tsiko' Katsikiotis (drums) and Elias Tsangaris (bass) as the main nucleus.
As evident with the album title Dubient, Man Data Sound showcases an angular marriage of sinister dub rhythms and subtle ambient simultaneously flirting with afro-funk, fusion and traditional Greek folk music. At times reminiscent of Bill Laswell & Material's excellent 'Western Lands'. A swelling sound of contrasting elements, with the purposeful indentation of 'greekness' stamped onto the musical canvas.
Tapping into the accessible avenue paved after the recent Electronica revival, Dubient places itself amidst the re-examination of past forgotten beats and promising new trip-hop and unravelling soundtrack-like structures without ever sounding exuberant.
Dubient is a worldly project and a record that tries to enforce a thoughtful current and tangible structure where genuine sounds meet natural instrumentation on a par with technology.
