Hélder Moutinho comes from a family steeped in Fado and is himself a Fado interpreter and composer belonging to the generation of new musicians that appeared in the 90s.
His discography includes: "Sete fados e alguns cantos" (1999) an album which has received great praise from the magazine of the World Music International Fair "Strictly Mundial"; "Luz de Lisboa" best album of the year "Amália Rodrigues Awards" and "Que fado é este que trago" considered by the critics to be one of the best Fado albums of the last decade.
Throughout his career, Hélder Moutinho has performed in some of the most important Portuguese venues, and has participated in a number of events and festivals that are part of the history of Fado's evolution in recent years. After a number of trips abroad representing Portuguese music in a number of European venues and Festivals, Hélder Moutinho embarked on a tour in the United States, thus becoming the first Portuguese male singer to perform on North-American stages on the World Music circuit. This was followed by trips to Africa (Zimbabwe) and Asia (South Korea and China).
His music is rooted in the traditional Fado. He was born and raised in a family of Fado musicians and therefore he has a deep knowledge of the art he performs. He has however always been interested in innovating within the areas of composition and performance. He usually invites musicians and composers from other areas to perform on his albums, for he has always defended Fado by saying that if it is music born in the ports which emerges from a mixture of different musical and cultural influences, then it must always be in constant development. This is something that has been observed throughout Fado's evolution, since its birth up to the present time.
Drawing from his experience in the world of Fado and his versatility in the world of music in general, Hélder Moutinho creates a live show that is a journey through all the transformations this musical genre has undergone through the years.
