Yami is an Angolan musician who has been living in Portugal for several years. He is one of the most talented artists to have recently emerged from the cauldron of mestizo, hybrid and intersecting cultures which Lisbon has become in the last years.

His music combines the Angolan semba and the West Indies zouk with influences from Brazilian chorinho and samba, Mozambican and Cape Verdean music, as well as from jazz and pop. Yami, who sings both in Portuguese and Quimbundo, one of the main languages spoken in Angola, celebrates with his music, in a contemporary and cosmopolitan way, the Portuguese speaking world and its numerous musical traditions.

As a singer, composer, and a bass and guitar player, Yami has performed with famous Portuguese musicians such as Carlos do Carmo, Dulce Pontes, and with the Cape Verdean singer Sara Tavares.
