Maria Kalaniemi will showcase her new album Vilda Rosor at WOMEX 2010 Nordic Club, Friday Oct 29 at 00:30, 30 minutes past midnight. Olli Varis and Eero Grundstrom accompany on guitar and harmonium.
Called by many, "Queen of the Finnish Accordion", Maria Kalaniemi has performed worldwide and released several albums with ensembles, duos, trios and various projects for over a decade. Her previous album, Bellow Poetry, featuring guitarist Olli Varis, stayed in the World Music Charts Top 10 for three months. Her new album Vilda Rosor "Wild Roses", is a collection of Finnish-Swedish songs featuring Olli Varis - guitar Eero Grundstroem - harmonium, Arto Jaervelae - fiddle and more guests and will be released in Finland by Aito Records in October 2010 and in Europe in spring 2011.
Maria is also a member of the international Accordion collective Accordion Tribe, touring Europe several times from 1996-2009 with three albums and an award winning documentary film/DVD.
Maria has also composed music for the Finnish National Theatre.
