Coming out of a musical family she started singing before speaking according to her mom. Anu started playing piano at the age of seven and added flute a few years later. She got the kick for jazz in her teens from playing saxophone and jamming with friends, with whom she also created a local junior big band in order to perform modern bb-tunes and Finnish compositions.
She attended summer jazz camps by Maria Schneider, Herb Pomeroy and Jukka Perko and studied classical music in the Conservatory of Lahti (Finland).
After college she landed in Belgium where she discovered the voice of David Linx and attended lessons by David, Diederik Wissels, Kris Defoort, Jeroen Van Herzeele and others at the "Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel" where she graduated in 2004 as Master of Music and achieved a teacher's diploma.
She also attended lessons and masterclasses by Deborah Brown, Mark Murphy, Bobby Mc Ferrin, Fay Claassen and Lydia Van Dam.
