John formed SPADGER SOUND SERVICES, and Spadger PRODUCTIONS, in 1981,and since that time has been involved in the Folk and Roots industry int eh UK on a full time basis. Initially a recording and studio operator, he has gone on to become one of Britains leading live sound engineers, working for most of the U.K's top folk, roots and acoustic artists, festivals and a number of world stars. (R.Thompson/Brass Monkey/Band of Hope/Rumillajta/Yusf Islam/Loudon Wainwright etc.......)
In 1994 he formed BRASS TACKS (with Kit Bailey)and for 3 years built one of the U.K'S most vibrant, cutting edge ARTIST AGENCIES, touring artists including, Martin Carthy, Eliza Carthy, Band of Hope,Dave Swarbrick, La Musgana,Diesel, Swap,........ The agency where the first to bring and build the Roots phenomena Shooglenifty to the world stage and helped create their ongoing success.
In 1996 John became managing agent for the newly signed celtic band ANAM , a JVC record artist, and built their career and touring schedule from scratch, touring them throughout the world and securing their licencing deals and record contracts.
John has gone on to manage DAILY PLANET and CARMINA over the recent past.
Between 2000 and 2006 John concentrated on running his sound company business and helping run festivals (STROUD FRINGE FESTIVAL/JERSEY FESTIVAL OF WORLD MUSIC/STROUD BLUES AND BEYOND/ATMOSPHERE....) alongside being a touring engineer: the SPADGER company became one of the Sound suppliers of choice for folk and arts festivals through out the U.K,(BBC/fROOTS/SIDMOUTH/TOWERSEY/SHETLAND....) eventually working for 26 in the final year of business.
With the need to 'move on' and reduce the debilitating hours and schedule running a P.A. company brings, SPADGER SOUND and the equipment was sold of at the end of he festival season in 2006, and John took time out to travel and rest.
In 2008 John returned from his work sabbatical and continues working for musicians, festivals and arts providers in a number of relevant areas - as sound engineer, event production, arts centre vice-chair,and site manager!.
His involvement with Jamie Smith's MABON started in 2008, since which time he has helped build their profile and work schedule, and also continues to be their sound engineer and 6th member of the band.
He is currently also Vice-Chair of The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington, Devon.
