The timple is the quintessential instrument of Canary Islands folklore. It is related to, and in some cases possibly the progenitor of, the ukelele of the Pacific islands, the Portuguese and Brazilian cavaquinho, the Andean charango and the Venezuelan cuatro. This project, 'timples and other small guitars of the world', seeks both to explore the individual voices of these scattered musical siblings and bring them together for a family reunion. Formed in 2014, the core ensemble consists of Gran Canarians Yone Rodríguez and Germán López, Beselch Rodríguez from Tenerife and Althay Páez from Fuerteventura, master timplistas all and agile exponents of all the aforementioned small guitars of the world. Augmented live by Leandro Ojeda on double bass and the voice of Jonathan Campos, they present an energetic and expertly executed cavalcade of merging styles.
