Kamafei is a band performing ethnomusic from Salento (south of Italy).The traditional salentinian music style is called "pizzica-pizzica and it turns around the frenzied rhythm of the tambourine.With Kamafei "pizzica-pizzica" meets other mediterranean music comparing itself with modern styles such as reggae, dub, rock, flamenco and hip hop.
The meeting with far away music cultures is obviously exacting, but also charming..By respecting the tradition, technology is used, never exaggerating, but keeping a deep musical balance.
The stronger are the links with the origins the more intensive is the work on the tradition making round it something different, provocative, revolutionary and as much believeble.
Kamafei’s show is an amusing one, rich in surprises, and the audience takes naturally part in it thanks to the overwhelming rhythm of the pizzica contaminated by the Mediterranean sounds.
