Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara

booking territory: GAS
2012: april / june / july

Innovative pioneer of Global Music, Justin Adams has an unmatched knowledge of both blues and African styles which he has been developing for 20 years. He plays with Robert Plants Band, co-wrote Robert Plants album 'Mighty Rearranger', released in 2005 to rave reviews, produced Saharan desert blues sensations TINARIWEN, and collaborated with Brian Eno and Jah Wobble.
The master Gambian musician Juldeh Camara plays a single string violin (riti) which sounds like a blues harp one minute and a Celtic fiddle the next. He is a celebrated Griot (preserver of history in song) in Gambia - a Homeric bard who carries the traditions of his forefathers.
For their first LP 'Soul Science' Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara won the BBC's World Music Award for 'Best Culture Crossing' in 2008. Soul Science envisions a modern world where ancient spirits are not extinguished by red tape and computers but enlivened by the crackle of rock and roll electricity. In his second collaboration with Camara, 'Tell No Lies' [realworld / indigo 2009] an exciting new fusion is realized as Adams brings Clash-style punk energy to West African trance rhythm.

CD: TELL NO LIES [realworld/indigo 2009]

It is extraordinary what one can do with a single string. This sound is more exciting than a Led Zeppelin reunion [the times]

This follow up is even better; it's even more confident and refreshingly varied, with songs that echo the raw exuberance of The Clash, the rolling blues of Muddy Waters and the delicacy and grandeur of the ancient griot ballads. [the guardian 5*]
