Kocani Orkestar is a 13-headed Balkan brass orchestra from Kocani, Macedonia. The sound of Oriental brass bands was introduced to larger parts of the Western public by Emir Kusturica's film "Time Of The Gypsies". From this time on the Romanies brass band makes the whole Balkan fan base dance on their concerts with fast played melange of Turkish-Bulgarian rhythms and brass sound.

"Die temporeiche Mischung aus osmanischer Militaermusik, slawisch-orientalischer Folklore, suedamerikanischem Mambo, indischer und westlich orientierter Unterhaltungsmusik ist ebenso aberwitzig wie mitreissend." WDR Funkhaus Europa.

On their new album 'Band Of Gpyises 2' they present themselves together with Taraf de Haidouks in top form.

You can get more information about the 24 musicians project here.

Current Album: 'Band of Gypsies 2' (Crammed /Indigo 2011)

"The Orkestar's four tubas (...) supply a surfeit of bottom-end grunt, providing a broad platform, on which two trumpeters, a saxophonist, a clarinet player and two vocalists strut their stuff. (...) In unison, the brass creates a wall of sound that the Tower of Power (...) would be pressed to match." The Weekend Australian
