MARIA DE BUENOS AIRES is an outstanding event, a surrealistic dance of things and phenomena, a tango-opera (operita , as their authors named it) with the perfumes of Buenos Aires. Astor Piazzolla, the world-known great maestro of tango, composed the music on a libretto by the poet Horacio Ferrer. Stage director is Giuliano Di Capua, Italian, born in Switzerland, lives since 1995 in St. Petersburg.
The masterpiece, performed for the first time in 1968, consists of 17 items, singing, playing and dancing. A star from Argentine is also invited: Gabriela Bergallo, who will be singing the main part. Both, the piece and Gabriela were recently nominated for the most important Russian performing-arts prize: The Goldenmask.
A short reference: "The 'operita tango' Maria de Buenos Aires is one of Piazzolla's most beautiful works. This version is marvellous played by Remolino Quintet, Giuliano Di Capua, Ilona Markarova and a group of actors and dancers. Let's dream the magic of the rebirth of Tango
