Variously referred to as 'formidable',
explosive' and 'shit-hot', the seven-piece
Kocani Orkestar pumps out a punchy mix of
powerful brass band sounds, thumping
Turkish/Bulgarian rhythms and exciting
Eastern-style solos.
TIMEOUT 1999
Unchecked musical chaos with shredding
trumpets and a brass rhythm section
blasting 9/8's, 7/8's - whatever. The Original
Kocani Orkestar are a pumping turbo-
charged Gypsy wedding band from
Macedonia that creates a party from the first
wild exhalation.
The Kocani Orkestar featured on Goran
Bregovic's soundtrack of 'Time of the
Gypsies'. The world-wide success of these
films and their music, brought on a Europe-
wide interest in this style. A style that was
born in the Ottoman days with the Turkish
military bands.
'...the fattest, funkiest horn riffs since the
glory days of Sax of James Brown...' FOLK
