The German Branch

Magnetic Music became a registered trademark in 1990 and took base in an industrial park in the city centre of Reutlingen close to Stuttgart. The operation was based on experience of MD Petr Pandula, who started his career as a musician playing uilleann pipes in 1977 and developed the concept of Magnetic Music throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The company has evolved from a one man show booking club concerts for Irish and Scottish bands to become the leading name in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for Celtic Music tours with 3 full time staff. In important magazines such as Live in Concert or Musix we are listed in the top twenty German Tour Promoters. Magnetic Music books over 300 concerts annually. In addition to tours featuring bands and solo artists, we specialise in organising concept festivals on tour. The most important and long established, with a 35 year history is The Irish Folk Festival. The St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Festival it’s approaching its 19th year and is also a major event in the European Celtic music scene. In total 40,000 visitors attend our festivals annually.

We represent and represented as agents some of leading Celtic bands and Artist such as the Grammy winning Moya Brennan – The voice of Clannad or Carlos Núnez – Spains leading Celtic artist. Also Battelfield Band from Scotland, Geraldine MacGowan Band, Karan Casey Band, Solas, Beoga, Arcanadh from Ireland. Uzume Taiko and the Paperboys from Canada. Urban Trad and Ialma from Belgium. We represent some of Germany's leading world music bands such as the Polkaholix.

Since 1999 Magnetic Music has been divided into two divisions. The Irish branch concentrates on recording and marketing our catalogue. The German branch has responsibility for organising our festivals and touring our artists in the GAS territories.

The Irish Branch

Magnetic Music was established in Ireland 1998 as a limited company and has been operating in Doolin ( West of Ireland Co. Clare ) since 1999. The beautiful setting of our thatched cottage, which is more than a century old, seemed like the most appropriate location to develop Co. Clare’s first traditional record company. Doolin has long been regarded as the Mecca of Irish traditional music and live sessions happen nightly in the local pubs, with famous faces from the trad scene turning up regularly to join the sessions, providing rich music to entertain tourists and locals alike.

Magnetic Music comprises of a record label with about at present 30 recordings, music shop and café locally known as “The last Music Café before America"! We are one of the few companies that choose to locate itself in the heart of the traditional music than in the city centre of Dublin, where the media are. Our remote location has not hindered our international recognition. Irish Times, FolkRoots, Irish Music Magazine, Los Angeles Times, The Living Tradition, Folker and many other international media have positively reviewed our recordings. Many of our recordings featured in the Irish Folk Charts and some of our artists were nominated or received awards.

It’s rare these days to come across a music shop like ours in Doolin, which stocks an eclectic range of Irish, Celtic and world music where a competent consultation and listening poles are available. We also offer a wide range of books and tutorial videos and DVDs. But above all the shop is an excellent showcase particularly for the Magnetic Music label. On-line shopping is also possible for those who prefer that medium.

The music shop and café offer a visual delight to visitors when they enter the quaint cottage and beautiful terraced garden by the river. The fresh home-baked cakes and tarts, cappuccinos, extensive wine list and excellent beers of the Co. Clare’s only microbrewery satisfy even the most critical palate. Every July and August we host the “Best for the West” concerts, where some of the most renowned Irish artists perform in an intimate unplugged candlelit atmosphere.
