20 years after Bob Marley's death, his music, born in Jamaica, is returning to the continent of its roots. Reggae is like the beat of the heart. You feel it first and then you hear it. Bob was singing: "Go back to Africa". - "It's done", says the lead singer Souleymane Camara. Although started in Jamaica, today Reggae is African. For more than 20 years African musicians have been playing a form of Reggae, very close to its origins, that was almost forgotten in Jamaica.Today Reggae is spread all over the continent and presents itself with a lively sound, influenced by its African roots, combined with serious texts.
The Calebass Reggae band performs in the original cast: guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, percussion and singing. When lead singer Souleymane Camara, born in Guinea, is singing, you can feel the roots of Reggae intensively. Percussionist Eric, the backing vocalists Saba, Setharé and Sara and guitar player Gossy play a sort of unspoilt Raggae. The repertoire of Calebass consist mainly of own compositions by the singer Solueymane Camara, the arrangements are by Gossy.
