Célia Mara
You might have heard about bastardista - "one of the best new "Brazilian" records to come around 2005" (Global Rhythm USA), storming the Top 10 of the European World Music Charts, 4**** reviewed in Songlines, top rankings in the greek charts and sensational press-reviews in various countries, awarded 2006 with "COPA DA CULTURA" by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture…
Célia Mara is certainly one of the most interesting front-ladies living between Brazil & the Balcans…She sings, composes and arranges her songs – she is a 21st. century singer - songwriter, a real brazilian groovelady, she excites like a popstar and emotions like a jazzsinger… She is working on an acoustic and electronic base, oriented towards a global world. Célia Mara’s charismatic voice and the eclectic but typically Brazilian mixture made bastardista be defined by the press as a new vision of Brazilian Diaspora music…
Célia Mara performed during the last 2 years with the bastardista live-project in prestigious clubs and concert halls between London, Vienna, Moscow, Prag and Sofia, at important festivals in Europe & Russia, presented her songs on "fightin' for a better world"-mega open airs in Berlin or on top of "Trio Eletrico's" during carnival in Brazil.
She had the honor to jam with grandmasta Joe Zawinul and to perform at the Vienna Opera House, at Jazzfest Wien. Always carrying a message for peace and social justice in her songs…

And now comes SANTA REBELDIA – the fourth Célia Mara Album, to be released in march 2008. Yes, you’re right – it is the continuation of the (musical) identity process started with bastardista (and even before)! It is fresh, surprising, exciting, danceable new bastard sound out of the diaspora. Songs with passion and heat, powerful, rebellious or ironical, with thoughtful lyrics in different world-languages… the grooves are tipically Brazilian, mixed up with Viennese electro-spice, music from Afro-, Latin and Balcan cultures joining in Célia Mara’s melting pot…Prouder as proud can be is Célia Mara about her very special guest and friend, miss mestizo Amparo/Amparanoia, featured in the track matriamericas…
Célia Mara simply stands with her music for a borderless society. Coming from a small town in Brazil's Minas Gerais, she lives now in Europe, in Austria. Discovering the world at her own pace. Living changes. Making music. Changing Lives. Santa Rebeldia is the music to spread the vision around the world…
