One of the most creative Brazilian soloists, multi-instrumentalist (all saxes, flutes and Brazilian indian bamboo flutes) Teco Cardoso was born in the city of São Paulo, whose cosmopolitan flavors can be felt in his music. He started playing sax and flute in very important young jazz groups of the city, such as ZonAzul, then became a steady member of the internationally acclaimed Brazilian jazz group Pau Brasil . Cardoso lived for a while in Los Angeles, studying with composer and arranger Moacir Santos, then returned to Brazil, where he has been performing with important Brazilian artists such as Dori Caymmi, Edu Lobo, João Donato, Marlui Miranda and Joyce.
Has toured in Europe, North America and Japan having played in very important jazz festivals such as North Sea, Copenhagen, Umbria, Miami University and clubs such as Blue Note Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka and New York, Quasimodo in Berlin, Stadtgarten in Colone, New Morning in Paris, among many others. Played twice at the Brazilian Night at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and important theaters and jazz clubs ind cities like Rome, Oslo, Florence, Wien, Stockholm, etc.
In 1997 he released his first solo album, Meu Brasil , playing his own music, as well as Brazilian classics. Meu Brasil was recorded in New York, Los Angeles and São Paulo and brought together 42 great Brazilian musicians. The CD brings jazz improvisations and contemporary experiments, which open a wide range of creative possibilities to the sounds and tones of Brazilian music, that blend well with a career that led his sax and flutes to the stage with Hermeto Pascoal, Toots Thielemans, Jim Hall, Walter Booker and many others great artists at the musical international forefront.
In Sept 98 he played at Miami University and the Blue Note in NY, and there recorded his second album - Quinteto , featuring his partnership with flutist and composer Léa Freire, released in 99.
