Like Michael Franti before her, Kia
Kadiri has emerged as a unique,
politically conscious artists who
draws upon hip hop, jazz, funk, world
and soul to create a sound that is
truly universal. In the Pacific North
West, her live shows have become
legendary and with the recent
completion of a full- length debut, the
charismatic performer, creator and
activist is ready to take her sound to
the world.
Kia has proven herself a versatile
performer in many formats. Whether
she's headlining the Whislter
International Ski and Snowboard
festival with her full 7 piece band, or
performing a solo daycase at last
year's Vancouver Folk Festival, Kia's
dynamic stage presence and
inspiring message connects with
fans from across the demographic
spectrum.
Born in Liverpool to a Nigerian father
and British mother, she relocated to
Victoria, Canada at the age of 9,
where she quickly fell in with a
thriving music scene that has
produced the likes of Nelly Furtado
and Swollen Members. She has
appeared on several CD
compilations and has guested with
such underground luminaries as
Abstract Rude, Killa Kella and Moka
Only. Her debut CD is set for
domestic release through
Maximum/Universal in early 2004.
Kia is truly an ambassador of rhyme,
rhythm and song destined to reach a
global audience.
