Tomasz Żymła has graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Katowice, where he studied clarinet with A. Adamski and from The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague where he studied bass clarinet with E. van Deuren. His most important achievements include: the 1st prze in the 4th Nederlands Klarinet Concours in Zwolle (The Netherlands), the 3rd prize (no 1st and 2nd awarded) in 13th Concorso Internationale per Clarinetto “Citta di Carlino” (Italy), the 1st prize and special award in the 4th Clarinet Festival in Szczecin (Poland). As a laureate of American Protege competition (April 2015) he has performed in the Winners Recital in the Carnegie Hall in NYC. As a soloist and chamber musician T.Żymła has participated in many festivals, such as: the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, the Musica Electronica Nova Festival in Wrocław, the First Performance Festival in Katowice, the Silesian Rostrum of Composers Festival, the International Festival of Contemporary Music “Poznańska Wiosna Muzyczna”, the Modern Music Festival in Beijing, the Festival Classique in The Hague, Tauron New Music Festival in KatowiceT.Żymła has collaborated with a number of orchestras, including Asko/Schonberg Ensemble, Brussels Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, Nederlands Symfonieorkest, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonietta Cracovia, AUKSO Chamber Orchestra. In 2010 T.Żymła performed as a soloist with G.Ligeti Academy, playing “wARD” Concerto R.Nachson’s for bass clarinet and orchestra in Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam. In the 2012/13 art season, T.Żymła completed one year internship, as a bass clarinetist in the Hague Philharmonic Residentie Orkest. In 2014 he participated in realization of Kopernikus by C.Vivier, produced by Dutch National Opera. In April 2016 he has performed a premiere piece for solo bass clarinet titled “There” by J.Amador at International Festival of Cracow’ Composers. In 2016 he has been employed for a trial period as bass clarinetist in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2014 T.Żymła has been a doctoral student and has conducted classes in clarinet, chamber music and contemporary music performance practice at the Academy of Music in Katowice.
