After dedicating himself to the tour for his album "Novas Bossas", which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Bossa Nova with the Jobim Trio, and the release of an album recorded in Paris with the Belmondo Brothers and the Ille de France National Orchestra, Milton Nascimento returns to the stage in a solo show, presenting new songs and his greatest hits. "I like to sing and I don't care if I'm the composer or not because, when I sing a song, I feel like the song is my own," says Milton, who has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary music. As Elis Regina used to say: "If God sang, it would be with Milton's voice."
Milton Nascimento took his first steps towards being a crooner at dance parties in the south of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. Recognition of the public came to him in 1967, when he won Best Interpretation at the Second International Song Festival, with Travessia. After that, his albums made their marks, influencing generations of musicians in Brazil and around the world and resulted in the creation of a new category of music: World Music. "It was funny because we would perform abroad, and the critics weren't able to categorize me as one style or another, like jazz, MPB, samba... so the began to put me into the "World Music" category.
But, wherever he went, Milton never stopped singing the iconic songs for which he was famous. "When people come to my show, even if we present new things, I never fail to sing certain songs because I know that people want to hear them. It would be disrespectful to the public, for example, not to sing Maria Maria," says Milton, mentioning some of the highlights that make up his repertoire, including winning compositions like Travessia itself and others that have become anthems, like Coracao de Estudante and Cancao da America. For the singer, every show is a huge tribute to the public.
Beyond old hits, Milton also includes more recent compositions composed with friends both old and new and performs the works of other composers, putting his own special touch on the repertoire with every presentation. "I have traveled a lot, met a lot of good people, and seen many incredible things, and I want to sing about them."
Because of this, every new day is a surprise because Milton Nascimento allows himself to surprise the public. As such, he never disappoints.
More than fifty years ago, he began his career with the Luar de Prata group while still just a child among the hills and echoes of Minas Gerais. Thirty seven albums, not taking into account his countless participations on the albums of other artists. Anthologies of sound tracks for movies, theater pieces, and ballets. Hundreds of prizes and awards, like the Tenco, Europe's highest prize for music, delivered to Milton at the San Remo Festival in Italy in 2008 as well as Grammies and so many others. Some Recognition from critics, universities, the public, and his colleagues :
"Milton Nascimento is probably the greatest Brazilian composer since
Jobim/Gilberto." Paul Simon
"The word 'inventive" does not define him as well as the word 'original', and he is a musical movement by himself Caetano Veloso
But mainly, the enthusiasm to take the stage like someone taking it for the first time. The desire to raise his voice on the road, to be in contact with the public, and to bring his music to the four corners of the world and the dances of life. "I feel like an old kid, and I want to keep on experiencing this magic for another 200 years."
