The Brass Band Sound as foundation for a Salsa Band
Heavy mambos, latin jazz, son, chacha, etc
From lazy boleros to powerful latin bop solos

In the spring of 2003 Frans Cornelissen initiated and oversaw the creation of the first demos for this spanking new Salsa Brass Band which promises great things ..

Salsa in an practically-brass-band-lineup:
o a horn section comprising two trombones and two trumpets for that fat brass sound and naturally a percussion section of two or three precussionists
o the tuba replaces in this case the traditional bass and plays the tumbao's but can at the drop of a hat join in with the other brass playing melody lines, monas and specials -- with this lineup the band achieves a more dynamic sound than with the traditional bass
o the piano, the only non-brass-band component, remains to add the vital harmonic and percussive montuno, which has it blending smoothly with the brass.

The repertoire for this project consists of existing tunes arranged by Frans Cornelissen specifically for this lineup, including works by Mario Bauza, Mongo de Santamaria, Cachaïto, Jaco Pastorius, Miles Davis, Marty Sheller, Moisés Simons.

Lineup Salsa Brass Proyecto Zuecos:
- trumpets: Joe Rivera & David Rockefeller,
- trombones: David Rothchild & Ilja Reyngoud,
- piano: Randal Corsen of Jeroen Griep
- percussion: Gerardo Rosales & Armando Vidal + one other Bongo/Campana
