Music for Change aims to encourage awareness of and respect for different cultures and people through music.

We are interested in not only the intrinsic value of music but also how music can play a vital role in community development, social inclusion and anti-racist work through education, co-operation and building self-esteem. Bringing people together through music.

In practice our projects include:

· Culturally diverse music workshops. This year (April to October 2000) Music for Change has organised 108 music workshops across South East England. Workshops are heavily subsidised allowing disadvantaged schools and community groups to benefit. Experienced artists from various countries including Ghana, India, Jamaica, Sierra Leone, and Zimbabwe lead the workshops.

· Arts, Anti-racism and Football. Workshops in 9 schools / youth centres over three months culminating in performances at Charlton Athletic FC in front of 17,000 fans (featured on SKY and Radio 3). The project is continuing to help establish a model for arts / sport and anti-racist work.

· Kent Music Projects. Music workshops featuring South American and African artists with socially excluded and disadvantaged young people in East Kent leading to community performances.

· Global Bandstand. Free annual music day in Canterbury aiming to reach out to new audiences. Artists from West Africa, India, Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe and Canterbury performed to a crowd of 3,000.

· Archiving the Music World. Working with the National Sound Archive, researching and assisting music archives overseas that are in danger of losing their unique collections.

· Information Service. Providing free information and advice (including to over 1,000 schools through termly newsletters)to educational institutions, community groups and NGO's
