Miriam L. Brenner studied musicology at Utrecht University and combined this with her love of travel to pursue sounds from far-flung destinations. After conducting field research in Southeast Sulawesi (Indonesia) in 2007, Brenner graduated cum laude. She then turned her focus to Central Asia, resulting in an MA from the University of Amsterdam. Brenner is an artistic director & producer for international music festival Music Meeting in Nijmegen and until recently a producer at music venue RASA in Utrecht.
As a musicologist Brenner publishes, gives lectures at various universities and museums and remains an active board member for the Bake Society for Performing Arts Worldwide.
For the 24th International Documentary Film Festival (IDFA) in Amsterdam Brenner was asked to be president of the jury for the award of ‘Best Music Documentary’.
In 2012 she founded Kokako Music gravitating towards great global bass artists & DJs, and world music/jazz groups where there is still so much to discover and share. While active as a booking agent, she remains a freelance curator, (tour)manager and (tour)producer.
