In the Realm of Solitude
The essence of Persian music is improvisatory and in the moment. With years of experience, renowned barbat player Hosein Behruziniā, improvises on pre-recorded percussive pieces by Behnām Ma’sumi, creating and composing “in the moment.” Behruziniā started playing tār at nine. Later on he started learning ud, and studied radif of Persian music under the late Mohammad-Rezā Lotfi. He has played in numerous ensembles such as Ᾱref, Molāna, Dastān and Ᾱvā, and also famous singers such as Mohammd-Rezā Shajariān, Shahrām Nāzeri, Alirezā Eftekhāri, Homāyoun Shajaryān and Sālār Aghili. What makes his playing so significant is that he plays ud in Persian style, which is totally different from its Arabic counterpart.
