When 10 musicians and Dj producers from Paris join together with Essaouira’s Gnawa Njoum (Morocco) for a colourful confluence of traditional and electronic musics.
Boum Ba Clash : no border musical process which rallies artists from every horizon is now proposing an electrOriental strike.
“Gnawa Njoum Exp” project was born following an improvised live party initiated by Dj ClicK where Gnawa Njoum (the Gnawa Stars) led by Maâlem Sedik Laarch, one of the new Gnawa generation’s representative, played for the first time with Dj’s and musicians of the electronic scene.
This mixing of cultures is now retranscribed into 14 original studio tracks : a trip into dub – breakbeat – drum’n’bass and traditional rhythmic transe. During 2 weeks of recording nursed by sound recording, stew and mint tea, (sometime annoying the neighbours) the three Moroccan musicians (Vocal / Guimbri : dromedary skin doublebass like instrument / Karkabas : metal kind of castagnettes) shut themselves up in studio where the latter operated a real exchange work, far beyond mere remixes. Dj ClicK and his collective, has found a subtle balance of groove, mix and electronic programming in production while still respecting the pieces and their religious conjuring-ups. In 2005, the compilation album DJ CLICK – LABESSE MIX will be released, with remixes and dub versions of 2 tracks.

On stage, the merry caravan is unique and extent his power : imagine the 3 Gnawa singing and dancing in their traditional suits, rallied by the intensity of the electronic programming. A quartet which can easily allows guests (mc’s, guitar, flute, percussion…).
