Ilhan Ersahin is an actor playing many roles.
As a saxophone player, he is considered as one of most important Turkish jazzmen in the world.
As the founder of Nublu, the New York Lower East Side institution, he is a musical curator, quietly guiding bands into formation and bringing them into the club’s quarters; as the chief of Nublu’s record label, he is a selector and producer, choosing records that represent the club’s musical movements;
again as a musician in six of Nublu’s bands (Wax Poetic, Love Trio, Istanbul Sessions, Wonderland, Our Theory, I Led 3 Lives) Ilhan adds his own improvisations and creations into the fold of the ever-developing Nublu Sound;
as a composer, he works often with popular singer Norah Jones -who did her singing career debut with Ilhan Ersahin’s Wax Poetic project. Her last top-selling single “Thinking About You” is an Ersahin/Jones composition), Bebel Gilberto (Brazilian bossa-nova diva), U-Roy (legendary Jamaican reggae dub toaster, who is recognized as the “inventor” of DJ’ing in 1970’s and he is collaborating with Ilhan on his Love Trio in Dub project)… and Ilhan composed as well for the short movie of Fatih Akın, which will be a part of “New York, I Love You” (in theaters in 2009)… His songs been on popular American TV series (such as Nip Tuck), Orhan Pamuk’s biographical documentary by Swedish National Tv Channel, after Pamuk’s Nobel Prize…
In Turkey, Ilhan always has been few steps ahead… like Nil Karaibrahimgil, Hüsnü Senlendirici, Bora Uzer, they all have been on Ilhan Ersahin albums as before their Turkish stardom.
