ARGENTINE FOLK MUSIC • TANGO • LATIN-AMERICAN • WORLD MUSIC WITH A TOUCH OF ROCK
Luciana Jury, one of the most attractive voices of contemporary Argentine music, will perform in a solo set a repertoire that goes beyond traditional tango, Argentine and Latin-American
folk, taking them to their most intimate and intense form of expression.
The power of her voice and the feelings it conveys have brought her to the same height as artists such as Chavela Vargas, Joplin, Djavan and Concha Buika.
Luciana, a singer, guitarist and songwriter, was born in the province of Buenos Aires, hence her strong inclination towards Argentine folk music. She grew up in a suburban area where tango, cumbia, rock and folk music all mingled, and her musical choices and style reflect this mix: in general she is more inclined towards Latin American music, although she’ll try her hand at any genre and always gives it a personal touch, characterized by the intensity of her interpretation and the power of her delivery.
Luciana’s repertoire includes anonymous works handed down through oral transmission, songs by renowned composers such as Simon Diaz, Violeta Parra, Lhasa de Sela and Francisco Canaro, and some of her own pieces.
Her recordings include La madrugada (2015), En desmesura (2013) -nominated for a Carlos Gardel Award as Best New Artist folk album- and Canciones brotadas de mi raíz (2011). She also recorded El veneno de los milagros (2014) together with Gabo Ferro, which was nominated for Best Album of the Year and for Best Album and author testimonial song, and Maldita huella (2008), recorded with Carlos Moscardini.
In 2015 she received an award from the Konex Foundation as one of the five best "Singers of the Decade."
