Maria Joao was born as a jazz singer for more than 25 years, more precisely in 1982. Very early in her life, her gifted voice, allied to an instinctive capacity of printing into music her very own and unique style, allowed her to become highly recognised and consecrated on Portuguese and international jazz scene. Collaborated with great names from the most creative jazzistic area, such as Japanese Aki-Takase, Joe Zawinul, Hermeto Pascoal, Ralph Towner or Manu Katche, amongst many others.
In the last 15 years she has been performing a brilliant career with pianist Mario Laginha, with whom she already recorded several albums since 1993. In 2007 launched the album "Joao", with unusual versions from the Traditional Brazilian Songbook.
"Chocolate" the new album together with Mario Laginha is already recorded and about to be released.
