Singer Juliana Cortes exhibits a captivating mix of jazz, world music and contemporary music in her two CDs. Her work is inspired by the cold regions of southern Brazil, where the country boarders Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina. The CD INVENTO (2013) was shortlisted for the Prêmio da Música Brasileira, Brazil’s foremost musical award, with the special participation of Vitor Ramil, who is internationally recognized as one of the greatest composers of present-day Brazilian music. Her most recent release, GRIS (2016), was recorded in São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Curitiba and includes ten original songs by contemporary authors, mixing elaborate arrangements with free improvisation.
