'3 thousand RIVERS: Voices in the Forest' is a multimedia opera by Victor Gama sung through the stories of people living in the rain forest. It offers a perspective on the environmental and social impacts of the current wave of industrialization underway in the rain forests of the Amazon, Chocó and the Andes in Colombia and Brazil.

For four years we have worked with local communities and invited singers who live along some of the main rivers in the Putumayo, Caquetá, Chocó and Pará to hear the voices of those who suffer these impacts first hand.

The work was developed in close cooperation and support with environmental and artist's organizations Amazon Conservation Team Colombia, Mas Arte Mas Acción and Flora ars+natura based in Bogotá.

It was possible through commissions by the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon and the Prince Claus Fund in The Netherlands.

3 thousand RIVERS premiered in 2016 at the Grand Auditorium of the Caloust Gulbenkian Foundation with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, soprano singers Yetzabel Aris Fernandez, Betty Garcés and Té Macedo, conducted by Rui Pinheiro.
