ITIBERE ZWARG

Along the last 34 years as bass player in Hermeto Pascoal's band, the multi-instrumentalist and composer Itibere Zwarg develops his authorial work since 1999, when he has created the workshops on "Musica Universal", in Rio de Janeiro
This is an expression used by Hermeto Pascoal to describe the music that encompasses all styles, free of boundaries of playing, composing and improvising, that transcends the concept of popular and classical music. Itibere lays out a system of musical learning based on this approach, using listening as a main tool.
In 2000, few students from these workshops were invited to integrate Itibere Orquestra Familia. The orchestra has amazed the critics and the audience all over the country, expanding this concept in the work of Itibere's authorship. After 14 years, they have released 3 albuns, has performed at the main venues and festivals in Brasil and placed Itibere Zwarg in a prominent position of the brasilian instrumental scene. In 2011, the orchestra turned into a concise septet named Itibere Zwarg & Group.

FROM ITIBERE FAMILY ORCHESTRA TO ITIBERE ZWARG & GROUP

The Itibere Family Orchestra made its first appearance in 1999 with students from the Workshops in Universal Music coordinated by Itibere in Rio de Janeiro. In 2000, it became a professional group, independent from the Workshops, and it was named Itibere Orquestra Familia.
The CD "Pedra do Espia" (Jam Music) was launched in 2001 and was elected one out ten best CDs in that year by O GLOBO newspaper. From then on, the Orchestra performed in the main Brazilian theaters and cultural centers.
In 2003, the Orchestra participated as a special guest in the CD "Mundo Verde Esperanca" by Hermeto Pascoal & Group.
In 2005, Itibere got a grant for composers in the last edition of the Project "VITAE COMPOSITOR" in order to compose for his Orchestra for one year.
In 2005/2006, the Orchestra launched its second CD "Calendario do Som" sponsored by NATURA and performed in several cities in Brazil and South America.
In 2008, the Orchestra performed in several Brazilian cities in the project Young Orchestras sponsored by Cultural Center of Brazil's BanK.
In 2009, the Orchestra was selected for the project "Pixinguinha/Funarte", launched the CD "Contrastes" (Sala de Som Records).
In 2010, the Orchestra recorded live for Sesc Instrumental Brasil and for "Palco Movel" , both brasilian TV programs.
In 2011, Itibere Orquestra Familia turned into Itibere Zwarg & Group. This was due to the changes in the group's identity and the work's ideology that happened through the last ten years. Now there are seven musicians playing Universal Music, totally integrated.
In 2012, the group recorded a new album intitled "Identidade" sponsored by Rio de Janeiro's city hall. The group played at Festival Festiarte (Brasilia) , Festival Mercado Cultural da Bahia, Auditorio do BNDES (Rio de Janeiro), Teatro Rival (Rio de Janeiro), and was selected in "Circuito das Artes", a program sponsored by Rio de Janeiro 's state government, for doing a regional tour.
In 2013, Itibere Zwarg & Grupo played at Festival Festa da Musica (Minas Gerais) and had its debut in Europe - Festival Jazz a Vannes, FR - beside acts as Wayne Shorter and Hermeto Pascoal. The Itibere Zwarg's concert was considered one of the highlights of the 34th edition, catching the attention of the press with flattering reviews.
Itibere Zwarg & Group will release in 2014 its first DVD, recorded live in Rio de Janeiro, with 12 brand new tracks.

THE CONCERT

For 2014, the shows's repertoire will include music of the new CD/DVD album called "Na tela da Imaginacao" (in english, "Screen of Imagination"), with chamber music formation and pieces for the whole group. Each musician plays more than an instrument, exhibiting an interesting choreography on stage.
The arrangements are very rich in melody, harmony and polyrhythmic movement. The universal themes are expressed by multiple colors and styles; the soloists perform impressive improvisations quite naturally.
The show lasts between one hour and a half in an informal and energic atmosphere.
