The biography of the 65-year old singer who is called one of the best jazz interpreters in the world is especially rich. She played the piano in her childhood and at the age of fifteen made her debut as a professional vocalist in night-clubs. Having sprung into fame and earned the name of Brazilian jazz and bossa nova hope within a short time, the young woman took up her residence in Mexico where she soon became one of the most popular vocalists of the country.

In the eighth decade of the past century Leny Andrade produced several albums in which the impact of avant-garde is clearly felt. However, in the record Registro of 1979 she returned to what she was worshiped by thousands of admirers in all corners of the world for to jazz permeated with samba rhythms.

Having started to tour Europe and the USA extensively, the vocalist earned international recognition. At the end of the ninth decade she began to co-operate with the most famous jazz publishing house of America Blue Note. In 1987, recognising her talent the celebrated saxophone player of Cuba Paquito D'Rivera recorded a musical composition dedicated to Leny Andrade For Leny.

The collection of the performer who co-operated with many distinguished musicians of Brazil contains a great number of impressive honours and awards. The influential US publication Village Voice declared her album Maiden Voyage produced in 1994 the best jazz album of the year. In 2007, her disc Ao Vivo recorded together with the pianist Cesar Camargo Mariano was awarded a Grammy statuette of Latin America.

Leny Andrade who has been endowed with outstanding talent for touring with the Banda Sambop whose members are experienced magicians of Brazilian rhythms, such as the legendary Paulinho Trompete. Members of the group have played with a great number of distinguished musicians, including Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Tania Maria, Gilberto Gil and others.
