Commercial wisdom in India holds that when it comes to music, nothing sells except film soundtracks and commercial pop. Anything outside that box is considered a creative and financial risk.

Phat Phish Records is an independent music label that disagrees and we have, and always will, put our money where our mouth is.

Established in 2003, the label’s first release was the Indica Project followed by Rabbi Shergil in 2004. While the former was an eclectic mix of artists and world sounds that broke through the musical clutter, the latter was a massive, if unlikely, hit that took the form of a young, unassuming sardar singing in rustic Punjabi.

And that was just the beginning.

We are awed by the amazingly talented but untapped pool of musicians whom we have met across the country And through our ongoing efforts, we intend to share their sound and make that magical and goose bumpy instant connection that marks all great music, regardless of genre and language.

To us, it’s about providing a choice, an option and a clear one too. We value your ear, so no hard sell.
