Munghana Wamina was conceived and produced by Jose Conde who was inspired by the stories of Makuleke and the work of Sharing to Learn and Denise Ortiz and the language of Tsonga, the melody was recorded originally by Jose in a demo in Brooklyn. On her humanitarian aid journeys to build the first two libraries in Makuleke and Makahule, Denise brought the recording of the Jose's demo for which villagers wrote lyrics. Finally Jose Recorded the lyrics of villagers Attorney Hlongwane, Juluka Hobyane, Tshepo Shivambu, Rally Makuleke. The poem in the song, also about friendship, is from Versos Sencillos by Cuban poet Jose Marti and it is recited by Jose in Spanish and by Denise in English. In the background, you will hear some of the endearing sounds of Makuleke: Children singing, night crickets, cowbells from real cows in herding, and the voices of some of the village community.

Jose Conde will be at WOMEX 10 in the RITMOS MUNDIALES Booth #23. Stop by to talk about music, the new album, the Sharing to learn initiative, or to have un cafesito Cubano. PIPIKI RECORDS is seeking distribution and Licensing in Europe and Asia for JOSE CONDE the album - a spring 2011 release
