Session 16

Chaired by Ben Lunn (UK), trainee artistic director, Hebrides Ensemble

Accessibility has become increasingly mainstream and many ensembles and organisations have been eager to become more accessible. However, there is little consistency in how this is achieved.

Ben Lunn, trainee artistic director of Hebrides Ensemble and artistic associate with Drake Music, presents his work on the changes, small and large, that ensembles and venues can make to improve accessibility for the autistic community. Based on his personal experience as an autistic musician, research and consultation with disability arts organisations and their audiences, and working alongside Hebrides Ensemble as they address the accessibility of their own performances, this is an opportunity to dispel common myths about disability access and discuss how all of us can take steps towards making the performing arts a welcoming environment for all audiences.
