Independent cultural festivals all over the world, both big and small, need to take steps towards real cooperation, sharing experiences and advising each other on funding possibilities among other things. We need to find ways to reduce costs for travel and make concerted efforts to share artists nationally and across international boundaries.
Public funding in many countries is drying up, and many festivals have never had any public funds to start with, so we need to find new and innovative networking actions and ideas. How can we survive and help ourselves and the great artists that we present, and give our audiences an experience that they can both learn from and enjoy? Is crowdfunding a method we should explore? We need to have realistic and practical suggestions and solutions. Musicians want to play; audiences want to experience.
