Les Voix Animées are a French vocal ensemble founded in 2009 that specialises in polyphonic, a capella Renaissance music, with dollops of newer music for good measure. Les Voix Animées present programs that are spacious, unhurried, and majestic without ostentatiousness – all traits of a bygone age worth revisiting in this era of micro-second attention spans.

Les Voix Animées are based in Toulon. Under the direction of Luc Coadou they’ve programmed hundreds of performances: first in France, and then in a widening orbit in Europe and Asia. They’ve frequently appeared on television, and even started their own monthly web video series that is equal parts comedy and musical entertainment. Although Les Voix Animées generally perform music by composers like Palestrina and Byrd, the group champion living composers as well. The balance serves them well, allowing the musically curious a view of two worlds: what has been, and it what is yet to be.
