Glasgow-based trio Talisk are one of the fastest-rising young bands on the British folk scene. Since their formation in 2014, they have already amassed an impressive number of nominations and awards and notched up appearances at major festivals from Europe to Australia. At the forefront is the astonishing dexterity of Mohsen Amini, possibly the world’s only Anglo-Iranian Scot playing Irish music on the concertina, and winner of the 2016 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award. Easily keeping up with him on fiddle is Royal Conservatoire-trained Hayley Keenan, while the driving rhythmic force is provided by prominent guitarist Craig Irving. Together they bring an infectious energy, sublime virtuosity and innate interplay to a fast-paced repertoire of traditional Scottish/Irish dance tunes and original compositions. No doubt there’s more awards to come.
