The request for social contribution from music institutions is increasingly common. This demand highlights the role played by music education programmes in musician training, audience development and inclusion. However, are we actually prepared for it?

This session aims to raise a debate about responsibilities and actions of musicians and institutions as part of social change, starting with two questions: what kind of social change should and can music and musicians accomplish? What kind of social change do musicians want to accomplish?

This session will be led interactively and divided into four parts: theme introduction; views of these issues from professional musicians and public via video testimonials; small group delegate discussion; and finally, the session will end with sharing reflections and future expectations.
