Presented by:

- Divya Bhatia (India)

- Umair Jaffar (Pakistan/Canada)
founder, Institute for Preservation of Art and Culture, Pakistan

The session will focus on the challenges, strategies and best practices for the legacy and continuity of the rich and varied traditional music on both sides of the border (Pakistan/ Rajasthan).

As the artists of these communities face similar challenges, one expert from each region will throw up the issues around themes such as: are living traditions becoming 'genres'; are opportunities for livelihood reduced due to the immense popularity of urban popular media (film and television); economic and cultural pressures challenge the younger generation to not follow the same track as their parents – how do we deal with this; can global inter-connectedness be a superb opportunity or yet another threat?

The session aims to be highly informative for its audience as well as invite comment and perspective from them.
