UNESCO adds Musical Traditions to its Lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage

At the 11th annual meeting of the UNESCO Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, several musical traditions from around the world have joined their lists of important elements of culture to be safeguarded and kept alive for the benefit of humanity.

Over the course of the meeting, three musical traditions have been listed as critically endangered and in urgent need of safeguarding:


In addition, the following traditions were added to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity:
